Our local operation centre in Iraq KRG is a collaboration with Democracy & Social Support (DSS Iraq) Iraq who are a non-political, non-religious and non-profit organisation originally established in Erbil (Kurdistan Region of Iraq) to respond to the humanitarian problems that exist in KRG civil society.
The Kurdish region of Iraq (KRG) has around one million internally displaced Iraqis and more than 200,000 Syrian refugees. This population is distributed across the cities of Erbil, Duhok and Suly.
Since its inception in 2005, DSS Iraq staff have undertaken many projects that have had a positive impact on tens of thousands of people. These projects include: Returnee reintegration; Activating Women; Anti-corruption; Educating Youth; Human Rights awareness and Eliminating Illiteracy.
The mission for DSS Iraq is to develop, consolidate, support and enhance a new Iraqi civil society, regardless of sectarian, ethnic, religious or political discrimination among various social classes.
In collaboration with IRARA, DSS Iraq organises activities aimed at education and the empowerment of different groups, amongst them people returning from Europe and victims of kidnapping.
We have our headquarters and a training centre in Erbil in addition to our Governorate coordinators who operate in both Sulymania and Duhok. We also have access to a nationwide network of organisations that can offer additional support.
