University Graduate Returns to Nigeria to Launch a Successful Surveying and Geoinformatics Business

After facing financial challenges due to the cost of travelling to Europe, Azeez has successfully established his own business and achieved financial stability.

BACKGROUND

Azeez obtained a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Technology Minna in Niger State. With ambitions of building a career in surveying and geoinformatics, he travelled to the UK in 2023 on a visitor’s visa, hoping to find a job that would improve his standard of living and future prospects. However, he soon realised that this visa did not permit him to work in the UK. Faced with this setback, Azeez made the decision to return to Nigeria.

REINTEGRATION

Upon his return to Nigeria, Azeez was warmly welcomed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos by a member of the IRARA team. He received an on-arrival payment and assistance with onward travel to his hometown of Abeokuta, where he reunited with his family who greeted him home, supporting his decision to return.

With the help of the IRARA team’s counselling he decided to utilise his degree and the reintegration budget to start a surveying and geoinformatics business. Eager to excel in his field, he took proactive steps to further his skills by seeking mentorship from a seasoned surveyor in Abeokuta. This hands-on experience helped him build a strong foundation for the business’s success.

Today, Azeez runs a thriving business and is deeply grateful to IRARA for their support. He is now able to make valuable contributions to his community while also providing financial stability for his family.

AT A GLANCE

After being unable to secure a work visa, Azeez returned home to Nigeria.

He used the reintegration support to launch a successful Surveying and Geoinformatics business, achieving financial independence.

The Returnee was welcomed by his family who supported him upon return and provided a stable environment in which he could thrive.

“After spending a lot of money travelling to Europe, I am happy that I still received this support from this UK government which helped me to start again here in Nigeria and to get back on my feet. Thanks to everyone who made this possible”
