Background:
Akram, a resident of Punjab, fell victim to the deceptive promises of local agents who assured him of a prosperous future in Europe. Driven by hopes of a better life, he attempted to reach Greece through irregular means. However, he was caught and placed into detention, experiencing uncertainty and distress, which had a negative impact on his mental health.
Reintegration:
Upon his deportation to Pakistan, Akram faced significant psychological stress and financial hardship. He struggled to meet the basic needs of his family and grappled with feelings of shame and failure that affected his mental wellbeing.
Through the support of IRARA and IOM, Akram received assistance to start a livestock venture in his village and was provided with psychological counselling for his mental stability. This initiative provided him with goats and essential supplies for looking after his livestock, enabling him to generate a stable income by selling milk and livestock products. Along with this, he has expanded his business by establishing a small milk shop and started supplying milk in his locality.
Grateful for this life-changing support, Akram thanked IRARA and IOM for enabling him to rebuild his life, support his family with dignity, and once again, live respectfully among his people in Punjab.
At a glance:
I am very grateful to IRARA and IOM for helping me. When I came back, I had no money, and I felt ashamed and worried. They gave me goats and support to start my livestock business and milk shop. Now I earn good income, take care of my family and live with respect again
