Constructing a new life – Colombia

Miguel is thankful to IRARA for helping him open a construction company

Background:

Miguel, a 25-year-old Colombian, returned to his home country in July 2025 after living in Portugal. Initially uncertain about his future and unsure how to earn a living, Miguel faced the challenges of readjusting to life in Colombia.

Reintegration:

Upon his return, Miguel joined the European Reintegration Programme (EURP) offered by Frontex in Colombia through IRARA and ASODDHH. Through psychosocial sessions, he overcame migration grief, regained his motivation, and began to see new opportunities for his future.

The programme helped Miguel develop a stronger vision for his career in construction. With ambitions of working solely, as a self-employed individual, IRARA helped him gain the confidence to start his own construction company. Today, he holds several contracts with major construction firms that rely on his professional services marking a dramatic transformation in his life.

At a glance:

  • Overcame migration grief and rediscovered motivation through psychosocial sessions
  • Strengthened his career vision in construction and moved from self-employment to entrepreneurship
  • Established his own company with multiple contracts from construction firms

This programme gave me the tools and confidence to turn my life around
