Umad Akhter

Regional Director – Asia

Umad Akhter brings over a decade of expertise in both development and humanitarian sectors, specializing in program management, capacity building, strategic planning, and financial management. He has successfully delivered large-scale country-level programs focused on migration and managed finance departments in various organizations across the development and private sectors.

Mr. Akhter has experience in thematic areas such as Returns & Reintegration, combating Trafficking in Persons, and addressing the Smuggling of Migrants. He has also devoted significant time to capacity building for government stakeholders, promoting good governance, and leading awareness-raising initiatives related to migration.

Throughout his career, Umad has managed multi-funded projects backed by major international bodies, including the UK Home Office (UKHO), European Union (EU), USAID, Education Funds for Sindh (EFS), Department for International Development (DFID), Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), World Bank, and various UN agencies. He is a Chartered Accountant, holding a degree from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).

Currently based in Islamabad, Umad Akhter serves as the Regional Director for IRARA in Asia. He leads a dedicated team of skilled counsellors and administrators.
